Little Krishna! - A 3d Animated short film series playing @ ISKCON B'lore

Little Krishna, a 3D animation film produced by the India Heritage Foundation (IHF) has won two BAF awards for ‘The Best TV Episode‘
and a special recognition award under the same category for
‘Outstanding Indian content‘ in the FICCI-BAF awards ceremony held
on 27 th March, in Mumbai.

The
India Heritage Foundation (IHF) is an independent Trust created to
preserve and propagate the ancient and timeless heritage of India in
it‘s varied manifestations like literature, music, dance, architecture, cuisine and so on with the objective of improving the quality of life of people.

In order
to diffuse the virtuous values embodied in the ancient epics of India
in an entertaining experience especially for children, the India
Heritage Foundation set about creating 3D computer graphics animated films
for TV serials on the life and activities of Krishna as described in
the Srimad Bhagavatam. "It has been a dream project for us," says Madhu
Pandit Das, Chairman of the Foundation, "to create world-class
presentations of Krishna pastimes using the state-of-the-art computer
graphics and animation technology."

The India Heritage Foundation commissioned Anirights Infomedia Pvt Ltd, a high-end animation studio
in Bangalore city to produce these animated films. A three times Emmy
award winning script writer, Jeffrey Scott of Hollywood fame was
appointed to write the scripts. Extensive research material, authentic
information on the pastimes of Krishna and extensive creative direction
were provided by the subject matter experts from the ISKCON Temple in
Bangalore. Vincent Edwards, who had formerly directed the Spiderman animated TV serial from Hollywood
was appointed as the Series Director. A team of about 250 young,
energetic and highly talented Indian animators, character modelers,
background artists, etc. was set up. The result is a series of
22-minute animated films of world-class production values.

The
estimated cost of this world class animated production is about Rs.
22.5 crores. This project is entirely funded by India Heritage
Foundation, though ISKCON Bangalore has provided all spiritual advisory
input. India Heritage Foundation is a charitable institution and has
developed a unique funding strategy for raising these funds through
surplus generated out of housing development for its supporters at
Kanakapura Road known as Gokulam Complex.

The first in the series, The Attack of Serpent Kaliya,
was screened in the recently concluded FICCI-FRAMES festival in Mumbai
and won the Best Animated TV Episode Award and the Outstanding Indian
Content Award.

Speaking to presspersons, the Vice Chairman of IHF, Shri Chanchalapathi Das said, "The Krishna
Animation film has been made in order to continue the tradition of
story-telling to children, but in the way that today‘s children like
to hear and see stories- animation films. If the best of cartoons and animations are filling in our children‘s minds, why can‘t we use the same medium to present our own heritage content?"

"When we
took up the first episode of Kaliya story, we realized that it was
technically a great challenge to create in 3D graphics," says Ashish
Kulkarni, CEO of Anirights Infomedia Pvt Ltd, the animation studio that
produced Little Krishna! Ashish said, "We had to animate 3D cloth,
water and over and above that wet cloth! There were practically no
skilled people to handle this in our country. Our talented artists took
up the challenge and we were able to achieve considerable success."

"The
animation section of ‘Best Animated Frames‘ Award for excellence in
animation received more than 360 entries" said Habil Khorakiwala,
President of FICCI on the occasion of the awards ceremony.

The
FICCI- BAF (Best Animated Frames) staging its 4th year of awards, has
been set-up by the Federation of Indian Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
to recognize and encourage animation industry in India. FICCI-BAF is
part of FRAMES which is FICCI‘s annual global convention covering the
entire gamut of entertainment.

Woooh..Unlocked & Jailbroke successfully 1st gen iPhone from 1.1.2 to 2.0.1

As iPhone is set to hit shores of India on Aug 22,I was very exited as everybody else asking always one question "How much does the iPhone will cost in India?" and the answer to it is obtained officialy from Vodafone that iPhone 8GB: Rs.31,00 and iPhone 16GB:Rs.36,100
and people can book iPhone by paying an advance Rs.10,000 @ a near by Vodafone store.

The Story

I chose to take the challenge of making my bro's iPhone 2g phone with 1.1.2 firmwre to the latest 2.0.1 and ofcourseunlocked & jailbroen.
So a quick google took me to several iPhone modding communities where there were lot of such success stories. After reading many of them then i came to know that the task is not so difficult as it sounds..
So arrived at this conclusion that as i've a jailbroken & unlocked iPhone 2g with 1.2.2 there was no direct upgrade that was successful i.e from 1.1.2 to 2.0.1

I've to upgrade it to 1.1.4 and then to 2.0.1.The resons are:

  1. iPhones with firmware(f/w) upto 1.1.4 are unlcoked and jailbroke using iLiberty+ or ZiPhone. and
  2. iPhones with f/w 2.0 or more are unlocked & jailbroke using pwnage.
And both the methods are different from ground..
the first method is as easy as clicking a button "do it all fo me" and Hurray!! you have an iPhone unlocked & jailbroken ,while the second one is quite not so simple..it actually takes the original Apple 2.0 or later f/w and is modified using pwnage tools(Winpwn for Windows & Pwnage for OSX) and then fed to iPhone..so we are actually loading a customised f/w to iPhone.

The Adventure

Upgrading iPhone f/w from 1.1.2 to 2.0.1

The process was not very difficult as i've already told

Upgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4

The process is actually three simple steps:
  1. Get the firmware required
  2. Restore your iPhone using iTunes to the downloaded f/w(You must keep iPhone in DFU mode and connect it to system)
  3. Use 3rd party tools like iLiberty+ or ZiPhone to Jailbreak & Unlock ur iPhone

A list of download links to iPhone f/w released till date
  1. Got the required iPhone 1.1.4 f/w here.
  2. I found a problem with iTunes 7.7 while restoring to 1.1.4( it failed at the preparing iPhone for restoration stage quite many times) so i downloaded an older iTunes7.6 version and installed it.
  3. Now setting the iPhone in DFU mode(before entering into this mode connect ur iPhone to system and have itunes open coz it helps to identify that u set it in DFU mode):
  4. Default Factoru Unit(DFU) mode is mode in which iPhone is put in factory before loading f/w.To put iPhone in DFU mode we have to press both the home screen & lock keys for 10 seconds and after 10 secs release the lock key while continuing to hold the home key..
You can notice that iPhone screens becomes blank and nothing happens..if u have iPhone connected to system then you can notice that Windows XP will start installing drivers for iPhone in DFU mode and iTunes saying that an iPhone in DFU mode found..
  5. Restoring iPhone to downloaded f/w(holding shift key while clicking restore will allow us to choose the ipsw file to be used for restoration)
  6. After restoration iPhone reboots and then it has to be activated.
  7. Now i used ZiPhone for activation and unlocking it.
Upgrading from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1

Here after downloading the 2.0.1 f.w and upgrading the iTunes to 7.7 i followed this guide and successfully upraded it to 2.0.1

All this process took an hou and at the end of the day i'm very satisfied to have completed task successfully..
hanks to modmyiphone, iclarified and several other modding sites for their detailed guides..and my humble thanks to the iphone-team for releasing such wonderfull pwnage tool to unlock 2.0 f/w and other developers of previous f/w version crackers.

But after two days of using iPhone on 2.0.1 i've noticed several freezes and crashes of iPhone which i never noticed from last one year.As it can be noted that all those apps available for 2.0.1 are in very early stages and are quite buggy this time.I hope this gets resolved in due course of time...

iPhone coming in July ending!!

Sources over net say that much expected iPhone is coming to India officially this month end!!

It is quite known that Airtel and Vodafone have already started bookings online..

The exact arrival date and the price of the iPhone
3G has been a pretty well-kept secret so far. But now via our contact
in Vodafone (who wish to remain anonymous) we can confirm that the
iPhone 3G will be coming to India to Vodafone as soon as the end this
month or early August 2008.

As for the pricing, all we know is that it’s not going to be a direct conversion of the US price to Rupees.

With
regard to availability, since Airtel and Vodafone have been allowing
preorders, it’s quite possible that the entries they have received will
quite easily surpass the quantity they get. Our source at Vodafone said
that depending on how the first few days' sales pan out they will order
more devices from the UK.

55 Portable Apps for Making a USB Super Stick

USB flash is not (yet) a portable PC whereby any USB KVM monitor is your work station - but it will get there. In the mean time, making the most of your USB stick and creating a portable software suite isn’t hard - you just need a little guidance. So… for you road-warriors or super geeks the following list of 55 portable applications are worth taking note. With 2GB, 4GB and 8GB drives readily available at extremely cheap prices making a portable software suite and creating a Super Stick is quite easy.

When building your Super Stick there are numerous programs designed to run specifically from a USB drive. Best of all, almost all these programs are free, so put that Amex back in your wallet and lets start downloading. Here’s a list of 55 of the most useful USB programs around.

System Utilities

  1. Currports [47 KB | Freeware | Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista] If you need to know what’s running on your computer and where, CurrPorts can be useful. You can monitor and control the ports that are used on your computer and the applications that are using them. This allows you to terminate or close them if needed. You also can export the information you find into an html or text-based report.
  2. WinAudit [783 KB | Freeware | Win All] Crack down on your computer with WinAudit. It allows you to run a detailed audit of all the hardware and software on your computer so you know exactly what you have installed, license information, memory usage, startup programs, and network settings. Like Currports, you can obtain a report in text or html format and additionally spreadsheets.
  3. Damn Small Linux [50 MB | Freeware | Win All] Now you can bring your Linux operating system with you anywhere you go and even run it inside Windows. Why settle for using an OS you don’t love when you can bring the mini-me version with you? Tiny enough to fit on a USB drive, but powerful enough to run a nearly complete desktop system.
  4. StartupList [158 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] If your computer takes its sweet time starting up, you might have a bunch of programs you don’t really need to start when you boot your computer. StartupList will provide you with a list of everything that will start when your computer starts - and not just applications. You’ll see scheduled jobs and pending file operations show up as well. There are a few key points to remember though, as this application was developed for those individuals with at least a little computer knowledge, and you can’t change anything directly through the program.
  5. PStart [632 KB | Freeware | Win 2000/XP] Take your start menu on the road with you with PStart. You’ll have easy access to your files and applications, and you can organize them in to categories or groups that launch when you select that icon. PStart also supports a variety of other features such as a notes organizer, search feature and customizable icons.
  6. AIDA32 [2.94 MB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] A system information and benchmarking tool, AIDA32 can let you know about your computer components and what’s working correctly or potential problems. You can print and save the reports it creates to help you better maintain any computer you use.
  7. Restoration [299 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Everyone has accidentally deleted something they shouldn’t have at one time or another, but now there’s an easy way to get it back. You simply scan your computer for any files that can be recovered, limiting your search within certain parameters unless you want to see all of it at once. But what if you don’t want to get your files back but want to make sure they’re gone for good? Restoration can help you wipe your files clean forever.
  8. RockXP [768 KB | Freeware | Win XP] RockXP can help you to easily retrieve your XP product key as well as any other keys for your other Microsoft products. This may not sound like a big deal, but it can be if you need to reinstall a program and you’ve misplaced the product key information.

Security

  1. avast! [398 KB | Freeware | Win All] You can make sure that any computer you use is clean and virus free with Avast! Virus Cleaning software for your USB drive. It can help you clean up any virus and worm infections and make the fixes to the registry and startup settings as well.
  2. Dr.Web CureIt [5.37 MB | Freeware | Win All] Another option for keeping any computer virus free is Dr. Web. Dr.Web is a little different than Avast! in that it only scans your computer on demand, it does not keep a constant lookout for any incoming virus or worm infections. While this might sound like a disadvantage, the program can detect a wide variety of viruses without installation.
  3. Omziff [407 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] It’s always a good idea to encrypt any files or data you’re sending or receiving on your computer, thanks to hackers. Omziff provides convenient encryption and decryption for the most common types of algorithms, as well as several other security tools to help you protect your information.
  4. SmartSniff [57 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Monitoring your network traffic on the go can be made easy with SmartSniff. SmartSniff allows you to keep track of your network traffic and even to color code traffic depending on where it’s originating.
  5. KeePass Password Safe [1.17 MB | Freeware | Win All] KeePass is a password manager that allows you to carry your passwords around with you in a secure and encrypted database. It offers several options for entering usernames and passwords and many additional security features. You can even add on to it with various plug ins (also free).
  6. AdAware [4.63 MB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Spyware and Malware infections can render a computer almost unusable, so take the ability to get rid of these bothersome programs with you no matter where you go. With AdAware you can scan the affected computer and delete the programs you determine aren’t ones you want.
  7. RoboForm2Go [2.84 MB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Take your passwords with you securely and conveniently (who wants to remember all those passwords anyway?). RoboForm2Go allows you to quickly fill out forms and passwords in IE or in other browsers with the click of a button. Your information will remain secure. And, as soon as you remove the USB drive no traces of the program are left behind and the passwords remain encrypted on the USB drive. The free version stores up to 10 logins.
  8. CryptoAnywhere [1.2 MB | Freeware | Win 95/98/ME/NT/XP/2000] Don’t let your emails go out unencrypted simply because you’re not on your home system. Bring the encryption security with you. CryptoAnywhere allows you to add strong encryption to any email you send to keep out pesky snoopers.

  3. Portable Safari [1.64 MB | Shareware $.99 | Mac OS X] While a majority of these programs are for PCs, portable Safari is for the Mac user. This shareware allows you to take the standard Mac browser anywhere with you. It isn’t free (but very, very close!), but for the cost of a downloaded MP3 you can take your Safari to any Mac you’d like.

Entertainment

  1. Yamipod [4.39 MB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Can’t install iTunes on your computer at work? Not a problem - you can use Yamipod to access your iPod’s contents without having iTunes. You can copy files to and from your iPod, import and export play lists, search for songs, remove duplicates, and create and edit notes. Yamipod also includes a built in music player. If you don’t have a USB drive you can put Yamipod on your iPod.
  2. Beneath a Steel Sky [8 MB | Freeware | Win 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP] While I myself have spent many a wasted hour playing Minesweeper and Solitaire, sometimes I look for something a little more satisfying. Beneath a Steel Sky is an old game (1994 totally old school) that was brought back as freeware. While it sounds like a dogfight type of game, it’s actually about a bleak future where oppressed citizens live in a polluted city. The game is a point and click adventure similar to LucasArts games from the same era.
  3. Flight of the Amazon Queen [7.2 MB | Freeware | Win 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP] This is another rerelease of an old game originally created for the Amiga (I totally had one of these back in the day). The game is also a point and click adventure with attractive graphics and creative dialogue. The puzzles should keep you entertained for at least a few hours, and if you can’t beat it all in one go you can always take it with you.
  4. Zoom Player [1.4 MB | Freeware | Win All] Zoom Player is useful for the common user as well as for the more advanced user who wants to be able to manipulate their playbacks to exact specifications. The slick interface looks great, and the program runs quickly while providing numerous advanced features.
  5. foobar2000 [1.6 MB | Freeware | Win 2000/XP/Vista] foobar2000 is a great little audio player and small enough to be usefully portable. It plays the most common audio formats (and some less common ones) and is incredibly customizable, especially for those who are computer savvy.
  6. Media Player Classic [2.12 MB | Freeware | Win 95/98/NT/2000/XP] On some computers, simply trying to watch a video can be an ordeal with video programs that haven’t been updated since they were installed. Circumvent this problem by bringing your own video player along. Media Player Classic plays a majority of media types and has a simple, easy to use interface.

Other Web

  1. TrayURL [1.86 MB | Freeware | Win All] If you’ve ever been frustrated at another computer when you try to remember a website that you’ve conveniently bookmarked on your own, TrayURL can help you out. It allows you to carry around your favorites on your USB drive and access them from the system tray as easily as you would on your own computer.
  2. GreatNews [ 1.29 MB | Freeware | Win NT/2000/XP] Get access to all your favorite news (or other) RSS feeds from anywhere using GreatNews. You can play around with the views and create custom labels and alerts. It’s a quick and easy way to keep up on your Web reading and requires no installation.
  3. Http File Server (HFS) [512 KB | Freeware | Win All] If you like to share files on the go, this program can make your task easy. This standalone program allows you to drag and drop files you want to share using a simple HTML page. For those of you who are so inclined, the page can be customized to suit your needs or integrated with Internet Explorer.
  4. WhoisThisDomain [42 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Internet business types can find the owner of a domain quickly and easily using WhoisThisDomain. It provides the name and registration information for any URL, generic or country code, simply by copying and pasting the it into the program.
  5. Quick ‘n Easy FTP Server Lite [355 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] Quick ‘n Easy FTP Server Lite is a simple but effective means for managing your FTP needs. The tiny program comes with features such as IP blocking, remote administration, and server statistics, as well as all the usual FTP goodies.
  6. FTP Wanderer [210 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] FTP Wanderer is another portable FTP program with drag and drop uploads/downloads. It’s designed for easy navigation of file sites but not necessarily for more advanced web management.
  7. Angry IP Scanner [108 KB | Freeware | Win All] If you’re in need of a quick and easy IP scanner, Angry IP can be your portable solution. It pings each IP address to see if it’s working, establishes the hostname, and then, optionally, can connect. It can also display a wide variety of other information depending on your needs.
  8. FollowMeIP Lite [152 KB | Freeware | Win 98/ME/2000/XP] If you want your IP address displayed even though you’re hidden behind a firewall, you can use FollowMeIP. You don’t need to install the program - just run it and your IP address will be displayed.

USB drives aren’t just for carrying around your music and important files, they can also be a great way to bring your most important or favorite applications with you. A majority of these programs are free to download, so give them a try. It’s a painless way to make the most out of a great technology, and maybe impress a few of your friends with a Super Stick, all-around portable work horse (provided they aren’t geekier than you).

Want to Create Your own videos..

If you are using Windows DreamScene to display animated wallpaper, here is what is involved in making your own:

Note that Windows DreamScene plays .MPEG or .WMV files. .WMV files use substantially more CPU to run but are much smaller in file size and encoders are more readily available for them. .MPEG is what I would recommend if you want.

The key to a good animated wallpaper for Windows DreamScene is that it's loopable.

The specifications that Stardock Design worked from via Microsoft were:

1) Loops should be between 8 and 16 seconds but not longer as file size becomes problematic.

2) File size should be at least 720P (think 1024x768) for a 4X3 or 1280X900 for 16x9

3) Find a good encoder. This is easier said then done because good encoders cost money. A lot of money.

But you can get a free one here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...er/default.mspx

Other notes:

a) There are various tutorials on the net on how to render your own scenes using Maya, 3D Studio, or whatever.

b) There are also tools that will help you animate a static scene. I.e. a scene with water that gives it wave effects and such.

c) Strong recommendation: If you are serious about your work, use DreamMaker to turn your video into a .Dream file. The reasons for this are (1) You can insert your name and website into the file which is then displayed on the Windows wallpaper dialog and (2) Your creation will be much easier to find in searches -- .DREAM for wallpaper is a lot easier to find than .WMV for wallpaper.
